Christian Community has played a pivotal role in the development of the Federal Capital and they deserve appreciation for keeping the city neat and tidy while preserving its greenery, said Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) here on Thursday.
To greet the Christian Community in a befitting manner, Elahi said that twelve Christmas trees will be decorated at different locations in the city as compared to last year's single tree, Chairman CDA said while addressing a Christmas Get-to-gather-cum-Dinner reception, organised by CDA in collaboration with the United Christian Fellowship (UCF). A large number of Christians from all walks of life attended the Christmas dinner. Member Administration, Shaukat Ali Mohmand also participated.
As Islamabad is completing its 50th year of establishment, the efforts of Christian Community stand tall and will be acknowledged on the Golden Jubilee Celebrations (1960 - 2010) of the city, Elahi said. He said that the trees have been illuminated to show solidarity with Christian community on the eve of Christmas. He said that Christians are a peace loving community striving for development and social up-lift of the country.
Elahi said that CDA is the only department, which pay bonus to Christian employees on the eve of Ester and Christmas. He said that the Authority has always met the demands of Christian community and recently a plot for church has been allotted to Full Gospel Assembly (FGA).
The Chairman CDA has always taken pride in having this peaceful and hard working community along in the journey to development for making Islamabad a model city. He said that on the eve of Eid-ul- Azha every year, the Christian employees of Sanitation Directorate have kept the city clean in an appreciable manner, which had been acknowledged not only by the residents of Islamabad but also by the people across the country.
He called upon the Christian religious leaders to pray for the peace and prosperity of the country on the eve of Christmas. The function was also addressed by the religious leaders of Christian Community and office bearers of (UCF). On the occasion, Reverend Iqbal Masih said that our mission is to serve mankind and promote peace and prosperity in the country. Chairman (UCF), Manzoor Masih, and Secretary (UCF) Sarfaraz Masih has also addressed the ceremony. They hailed the efforts of Chairman CDA and said that he has shown solidarity with the Christian employees on all occasions.
