Over-billing, power: disconnection Ashraf assures MQM members of summoning KESC officials
Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf on Thursday calmed the protesting Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) members in the National Assembly by promising to summon officials of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) for resolving the issue of over billing, power disconnection and increase in power tariff in the metropolis.
The members of the MQM while talking on a call attention notice regarding power disconnection, over billing and increase in tariff strongly criticised the KESC mismanagement. MQM's MNA Asif Hasnain accused the Minister for Water and Power of telling 'lies' while speaking without mike when the minister said that no one across the country was sending over bills or estimated bills rather connections were being cut for not paying the electricity bills.
Pervez Ashraf further said that the power tariff was uniform across the country as it is being regulated by National Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) and as far as Karachi is concerned, it is KESC to regulate the tariff. He said that the KESC was privatised by the former government of which MQM was also a component. He further said that all the meetings held with the KESC officials at Governor House were well represented by MQM.
He, however, promised to summon officials of the KESC in the current session of the National Assembly to resolve the issues pertaining to over billing, power disconnection and other related matters. MQM members including Sajid Ahmed and Nadeem Ihsan strongly criticised the affairs of the KESC and accused its officials of corruption.
