The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has taken exception to the remarks of Federal Minister for Education Assef Ahmad Ali regarding introduction of regional language-based medium of education in provinces. Speaking on the floor of the provincial assembly, KP Minister for Information, Iftikhar Hussein alleged that the ministers of devolved ministries were creating hurdles in the handing over of the devolved departments, and particularly named Minister Education Assef Ahmad Ali for alleged is issuing wrong remarks.
He condemned the remarks as "unconstitutional". He said that the KP government has resolved the problem of education in mother tongue. He said that imparting education in mother tongue was a 60 years old problem. He said that the provincial government would form curriculum for regional languages.
The minister said that the province was already having curriculum of Urdu and Pashto textbooks. Curriculum for other regional languages would be made shortly. He said that they condemned the remarks of the federal minister and termed it against the constitution.
Meanwhile the Speaker of the KP Assembly, Kiramatullah Khan, has once again asked administrative secretaries of all departments for furnishing reply to questions submitted by the legislators within a period of 10 days, and directed the Assembly Secretariat against acceptance of late answers. The directive was issued on a complaint raised by Inayatullah Khan Jadoon of PML-N, who said that additional questions to agenda items had been distributed in the house.
The complaint of the legislator prompted the speaker to issue strict directive on the issue. "The departments are not taking the directives of the assembly seriously," directed the chair and announced complete ban on delayed answers in the house. On the complaint of Provincial Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education, Sardar Hussein Babak and MPA Abdul Akbar Khan, the Speaker also directed the Department of Law to submit reply on a summary sent by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regarding service structure.
The chair issued the directive when Akbar Khan of PPP pinpointed that the lacking of structure is creating problems in promotions in education department. He said that the department has already sent a summary of the service structure to the department of law. However, it was struck up with the department.
Replying to a question regarding vacant posts of headmasters, the minister told the house that a summary for a proposed service structure was sent to the department of law for obtaining of its point of view. But, it had been struck down in the department. The contentions of the provincial minister and parliamentary leader of PPP prompted the chair to issue standing orders to the department of law for submitting a detailed report within a period of one-week with the assembly secretariat.
The provincial minister for education told the house that all vacant posts of subject specialists had been filled and now there is no problem in the province in this regard. He said that for appointment of more subject specialists a requisition has been sent to Provincial Service Commission to the make appoint clean of any kind of discrimination.
