Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP Operations) Bani Ameen has expressed his determination to make Islamabad police a corruption free department. Addressing police officials in a meeting held to review the performance of various police circles in curbing criminal activities, the DIG (Operations) came very hard on the sluggish officials and stressed the need for accelerating the efforts in providing relief to the citizens and disposing off the under investigation cases.
The DIG said that corruption would not be tolerated in the police department and the goal of making Islamabad police a corruption free department would be achieved at every cost. He also asked the police officials to fix timings for listening public complaints in their offices to ensure timely redressal of their grievances.
"Policing is a service oriented job and every police official must serve the humanity with devotion," the DIG maintained. He said that incidents of terrorism have been controlled in the Capital due to the hard work of police officials and such kind of efforts must be emulated in curbing the criminal activities too.
Bani Ameen said that registration of FIRs must be ensured in the police stations without any difficulty and resources should be used to provide relief to the masses. He also directed police officials for strict monitoring of the sluggish and corrupt cops and inform high ups for their involvement in any kind of such activities. "Facilitate your sub-ordinates in performing their duties and provide them necessary things whether they are on duty at police stations or police pickets," he directed the officials.
The DIG (Operations) also asked to ensure arrest of proclaimed offenders and court absconders. He reviewed the performance of every police official attending the meeting during the last three months and strictly warned those involved in dereliction of duties.
The DIG was told that 349 proclaimed offenders and court absconders, 469 criminals and hundreds of persons possessing illegal weapons were arrested during the last three months, besides recovering 169 kilogram hashish, 10 kilogram heroin, 17 kilogram opium from their possession. He also announced to award cash prizes and commendation certificates to Station House Officers of Bhara Kau, Aabpara and Secretariat police stations for their brilliant performance. He also announced to award appreciation letters to SP (City) Haroon Joya, DSP Liaqat Niazi.
DIG said that performance of SHOs would be further reviewed in detail during next meeting and those having poor performance would be reshuffled. The meeting was attended by SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, SP (City) Haroon Joya, SP Industrial Area Jameel Hashmi, SP Malik Umer Hyat, SP Dr Khurram Rasheed, SP Legal Javed Iqbal Khatak, all Sub-Divisional Police Officers, DSP Anti-Car Lifting Cell and all Station House Officers of police stations.
