The newly passed-out Chartered Accountants (CAs), who are supposed to become one of the major contributors to the development of the country, are now more acquiescent to serve abroad than their homeland, due to prevailing law & order situation. These views were expressed by senior CAs at a certificate distribution ceremony of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Pakistan (ICAP) held at local hotel the other day.
"We can't help stop this brain drain unless the law and order situation improved and political and economic uncertainties are ended." "Consequently, only 83 students, out of total 130 passed-out CAs, were present to receive certificates, one of the senior ICAP member told Business Recorder on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Pervez Ghias CEO Indus Motor Company Limited said the present economic conditions of the country are challenging and require hard work from new entrants into the field of accountancy. Giving advice to newly passed-out CAs, Ghias said: "You will be at the best positions to bring positive changes in your respective companies and the country."
He said CAs would also need to improve their interpersonal skills and broaden their horizons to bring the best possible changes into their organisations. "You need to learn more than debit and credit to excel in your careers," he added. Sohail Wajahat, CEO Siemens Pakistan Limited, said the role of a chartered accountant is similar to a doctor. "You know the financial problems and their solutions so does a doctor knows the problems of a human body," he stated.
ICAP President Saqib Masood said there would be disappointment and frustration all along. He said that nobody's life is perfect, nevertheless, how an individual deals with the challenges is what sets him apart from others. "Try to be optimistic and positive all the time because it is innate optimism that will take you higher and higher in your life," he said. "There is nothing to fear but fear itself," he added.
