Power supply to apartments restored

Published Updated

Karachi Electric Supply Company late Wednesday reached agreement with the residents of AlKaram Square and Apsara Apartment for payment of electricity dues. The agreement will be signed on Friday. Earlier, the residents held a protest demonstration against power supply disconnection by KESC.
KESC on Tuesday disconnected power supply of AlKaram Square and Apsara Apartments located at Liaquatabad No 10 for non-payment of power dues. According to KESC dues against AlKaram Square stand at Rs 340 million while Apsara Apartments Rs 138 million.
Enraged residents took to streets to vent their anger late Wednesday and torched a trailer bearing registration No LSB-8965 and laden with cardboard. The protest started again in the morning and the protesters blocked Shahra-e-Pakistan and Liaquatabad Flyover at Liaquatabad No 10 by setting tires on fire.
Some residents holding their electricity bills in their hands told Business Recorder that despite payment of electricity bills in time, KESC has disconnected power supply, which is unfair. Some protesters told Business Recorder that KESC has installed electricity meters but no connection has been given as yet with the result they are compelled to get illegal connections.
KESC officials charge money for allowing illegal connections, they added. Later in the evening, power supply of both AlKaram Square and Apsara Apartment was restored and the protesters dispersed peacefully. A spokesman told Business Recorder that KESC restored electricity of both the apartments as a goodwill gesture. Senator Haseeb, IT Minister Raza Haroon, Khawaja Izharul Hassan, Advisor to CM and Anwar Alam, MNA held negotiations with KESC officials for resolution of the issue.
