The Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Swat on Tuesday and attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Bridge near Barikot. According to ISPR press release here on Tuesday, the bridge is being constructed by Frontier Works Organisation with UAE funding as part of the Quick Impact Projects.
A United Arab Emirates (UAE) delegation led by Ali Saif Sultan Al Awani, Ambassador of UAE was also present at the occasion. The CoAS thanked the brotherly country for its support to the people of Pakistan. The CoAS later visited De-radicalisation and Emancipation Programme (DREP) facility being run under the auspices of Pakistan Army. The facility is helping in rehabilitation of affected youth. CoAS also interacted with locals and reiterated that Army will continue to contribute meaningfully towards the development and rehabilitation of Swat.
