The average price of the top Kenyan tea grade rose to $3.74 at this week's auction from $3.66 per kg at the previous sale, brokers said on Tuesday. Best Broken Pekoe Ones (BP1s) fetched $4.10-$3.38 per kg from $4.02-$3.30 per kg last week. Africa Tea Brokers said 124,060 packages were offered for sale, with 15 percent of that left unsold.
"(There was) good but irregular demand for the 124,060 packages on offer in the last auction of the year at irregular levels," ATB said in its weekly market report. Best Pekoe Fanning Ones sold at $3.80-$3.35 per kg compared with $3.94-$3.20 per kg previously.
ATB said Pakistan Packers, Yemen and other Middle Eastern countries and Sudan bought similar amounts of tea as last week, while the Pakistan Bazaar, Kazakhstan and Russia bought more. It said Egyptian Packers, Afghanistan, United Kingdom and Iran bought less tea than last week.
