President Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that PML-Q was ready to bring in-house change in Balochistan Assembly with the co-operation of Jamiat-e-Ullma Islam (JUI-F). Talking to reporters after attending PML-Q function regarding Christmas here on Monday, he said that PML-Q and JUI-F together could form government in Balochistan and he had consulted Maulana Fazlur Rehman in this regard.
Addressing the event he said that PML-Q was not in favour of amending blasphemy law instead the authorities should properly investigate blasphemy related complaints to avert misuse of the law. He said the people across the country disliked the comments passed by the Punjab Governor on Asia Bibi's conviction under the blasphemy law.
He added that if some one considers Asia Bibi innocent, the issue should be investigated by the relevant agency. He said that why she was blamed for blasphemy and in case she admits her crime, she must be punished in accordance with the law.
Shujaat said that his party would not allow amendment to the blasphemy law. However, he underlined the need of formulating a new law for ensuring misuse of the law, suggesting strict punishment for those who wrongly blame and involve others in legal proceedings.
"We are strongly opposed to any sort of amendment to blasphemy law and the government should improve investigation system instead of changing the law," he said. The function was attended by president PML-Q MNA Akram Messiah Gill, Dr Atya Anyatullah, Zubada Jalal, Nosheen Saeed, besides a large number of workers.
Chaudhry Shujaat said that his party and JUI-F could form government in Balochistan and he has consulted JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal Rehman in this regard. "Our party strongly believes in democracy and wanted a sustainable democratic system in Pakistan, adding that they have no interest in becoming part of the federal government."
On the occasion, he distributed Christmas gifts and cheques among the Christian community. He said that Pakistan Muslim League believes in politics of forbearance and acknowledges the services of minorities in the development of Pakistan. PML-Q Minorities Wing president Akram Massi Gill said that minorities were playing an active part in uplift of the country. He added that PML-Q was only political party of the country, which gives top priority to the minorities and was raising their concerns at top level.
