Flood-hit areas: 'project to boost agriculture productivity underway'
A project is being implemented with an estimated cost of Rs 2.88 billion to boost agricultural productivity in the flood-hit areas. Under this programme, 84 percent flood-affected farmers would be provided certified seeds and fertilisers.
While talking to APP, Director General (DG) Agriculture Extension and Adaptive Research Punjab, Dr Anjum Ali said that 1.3 million acres of agriculture land was severely affected by the floods in seven districts of Punjab namely Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Raheem Yar Khan and Rajanpur. He said the agriculture extension department accepted the challenge to motivate affected farming community to come back inside the productivity cycle. Under the first phase, agriculture extension department has completed on-ground survey to ensure provision of seeds, fertilisers and other agri-inputs to the farmers.
