Chairman of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA), Masood A Majeed said that total 945 ginning factories are operational in Sindh and Punjab. 10,20,038 bales of cotton were received during last fortnight from December 1st to 15, 2010. Though recent floods had badly hit the cotton crop in the districts of Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Rajanpur Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan.
He told that 44.54 percent cotton was destroyed in Muzaffargarh, 58.75 percent in Rajanpur, 19.09 percent in Dera Ghazi Khan, 18.86 in Jhang, 22.17 percent in Hyderabad and 25.12 percent in Ghotki.
Cotton production in the country has declined by 16.95 percent as the arrivals recorded at the ginneries as on December 15 stood at 93,77,263 bales, showing a decrease of 16.95 percent from 1,12,91,149 bales received in the corresponding period of last year. The report reveals an increase of 15.25 percent in cotton in Lodhran district, 73.88 percent increase in Mianwali district, and 10.04 percent increase in Balochistan. The unsold stock is 11,07609 bales, which is more than last year, which was 12,51,971 bales.

Punjab contributed 60,55,987 bales, Sindh 233,21,276 bales and Balochistan 21,091 bales to take the total to 93,77,263 bales. District-wise production data showed that Multan contributed 3,16,722 bales, Lodhran 1,79,060 bales, Khanewal 6,24,438 bales, Muzaffargarh 2,00,660 bales, Dera Ghazi Khan 2,45,960 bales, Rajanpur 1,69,563 bales, Layyah 1,43,399 bales, Vehari 6,43,256 bales, Sahiwal 4,47,229 bales, Pakpattan 2,26,400 bales, Okara 39,900 bales, Kasur 6,450 bales, Toba Tek Singh 2,32,989 bales, Faisalabad 99,950 bales, Jhang 1,33,400 bales, Mianwali 1,20,500 bales, Bhakkar 75,250 bales, Rahim Yar Khan 6,98,806 bales, Bahawalpur 6,84,905 bales, and Bahawalnagar 7,34,000 bales.
Sindh's district-wise production figures were: Hyderabad 3,19,144 bales, Mirpurkhas 3,50,894 bales, Sanghar 14,40,187 bales, Nawabshah 3,10,108 bales, Naushero Feroze 1,83,231 bales, Khairpur 1,94,148 bales, Ghotki 1,59,527 bales, Sukkur 2,41,355 bales, and Dadu 1,01591 bales. Balochistan added 21,091 bales to the total. The report said that the ginners pressed 89,84,326 bales. Only 4,14,670 bales were exported by commercial exporters (which were purchased from Sindh), and merely 40,600 bales were purchased from Punjab. The textile industry purchased 78,54,984 bales and 11,07,609 bales were available with ginners, as unsold stock.
