Phase-I BMRE programme completed: MoDP

pofwertISLAMABAD: Phase-I of 'Balancing Modernization Restructuring and Expansion (BMRE) programme, formulated in collaboration with China, has been completed at a cost of US$ 73 million.

The programme has been initiated to enhance the existing production capacity of Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POFs) and to replace the old vintage plants-machinery.

According to official sources in the Ministry of Defence Production, Phase- II with an estimated cost of US$ 140 million was in progress.

Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POFs) were currently producing small arms and ammunition of various categories.

With the efforts of the Defence Production Establishments of Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP), three closed factories had also been revived, which have started generating the profit up to Rs.70 million between years 2009-11.

Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) are manufacturing tanks of different variants and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and maintaining the operational readiness of Pakistan Army.

Due to prevailing security situation, HIT is also manufacturing security vehicle 'Mohafiz', Bullet Proof jackets and Discreet Armoured Vehicles for Law Enforcing Agencies.
