HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares rose 0.93 percent on cautious optimism Wednesday morning ahead of a crucial European summit that dealers hope will finally lead to a solution to the eurozone debt crisis.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index gained 175.30 points to 19,117.53 on turnover of HK$24.49 billion ($3.15 billion).
