Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Hamid Saeed Kazmi on Sunday said that attacks at Data Darbar were a conspiracy to catalyse sectarianism. He stressed on an urgent need to create awareness among masses regarding the nefarious designs of terrorists.
While addressing a press conference, the federal minister appealed protestors to carry out demonstrations in a peaceful manner and apprehended that sectarian clashes could put the government in a fix as their focus on destroying terrorists' hideouts in Waziristan would shift.
Kazmi strongly condemned those elements that term terrorist' attacks as a reaction to government policies, drone attacks and inequalities. However, he was of the view that masses do not buy such baseless reasons to kill innocent people as they (masses) themselves were being targeted frequently. The federal minister said that terrorists were not serving Islam and instead doing the opposite. He dismissed criticisms on security arrangements and added that it was very difficult to stop suicide attacks.
About Taliban' presence in South Punjab, he said that there were no training camps of terrorists in the region. To a query on an involvement of foreign elements in terrorism, he said the involvement of foreign hands in terrorist activities in our country could not be ruled out.
Kazmi said that the government was determined to wipe out terrorism from the country and enjoyed masses' backing on this stance. To a query regarding dialogue with Taliban, he said that the government was ready to give a safe exit to extremists who were ready to surrender, but ruled out dialogue at gunpoint.
