Minister for Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) Abdul Salam Thaeem has expressed dissatisfaction over the educational standard and output of technical training institutions in Sindh, saying that after the introduction of devolved system, district governments have severely hampered technical education.
He stated that out of 250 technical training institutions in the province, 32 were closed due to multiple reasons including inadequate teaching faculty and facilities. Thaeem expressed these views while talking to media men during his visit to Government Poly Technical College along-with ministers, here Saturday evening.
He said that PPP government, realising the importance of technical education for social and economic development, established STEVTA and is trying its best to revamp the technical education system in the province. He informed that a complete survey, about the status of technical training in Sindh, has been conducted and a comprehensive plan is being prepared to streamline technical training system of education.
In this regard, he said, priority is being given to market-oriented courses for technical training of youths, which would not only promote technical business, but also eradicate unemployment and poverty from the society. The minister stressed the need for close co-ordination, working relationship and trust building between the management of technical training institutions and industrial sites to employ skilled manpower. He, on the occasion, announced that Sindh government would provide six transport buses this year to the students of Government College, Qasimabad.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Minister for Fisheries Zahid Ali Bhurgari said Sindh government is sincere to raise the standard of education and technical know-how among the young generation, adding it would not bow before 'ghunda-ism' in educational institutions.
However, he admitted that security conditions in educational institutions were not satisfactory. He advised the management of educational institutions to submit requisition about security to the government, and assured that government will fulfil these. Referring to the drainage problem in poly technical college, Qasimabad, he directed Wasa - HDA management to resolve the problem on priority basis.
