ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that Pakistan remains committed to playing what he described as an “honest and sincere” role in promoting dialogue, following a high-level meeting between the US and Iran held in Switzerland under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
In his first comments after the talks concluded in Burgenstock, Switzerland, the prime minister said he was satisfied with what he called the “successful conclusion” of the engagement.
He said the discussions took place in a “positive and constructive atmosphere” and produced “encouraging progress”, including agreement on a proposed roadmap towards a final deal within 60 days, the formation of a high-level political oversight committee, and the launch of further technical-level negotiations.

Sharif praised the leadership of both Washington and Tehran for what he called their “continued commitment to constructive engagement”.
He also expressed gratitude to “brotherly and friendly countries” for their support in facilitating the process, singling out Qatar for its “critical support” in helping create conditions for the talks to proceed.
He additionally thanked the Swiss government for hosting the negotiations.
In his statement, the prime minister paid a “special tribute” to Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, crediting his “untiring efforts” for helping ensure the success of the discussions.
“His [Gen Munir] dedication, commitment and perseverance are indeed commendable, without which there would have been no progress,” Sharif said.
He also thanked Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for their roles in the process.
Concluding his remarks, the prime minister reiterated that Pakistan would continue to support dialogue and diplomacy aimed at what he called a peaceful and lasting resolution to regional tensions.
Officials said the developments – including the proposed roadmap, oversight mechanism and continued technical talks – form part of broader efforts to reduce tensions and encourage a negotiated settlement between the US and Iran, with Pakistan positioning itself as a facilitator of continued engagement.
