Real Madrid’s hope of closing points gap with table leaders Barcelona could be in danger if their clash with Girona gets canceled.

According to reports from Spain, La Liga champions are scheduled to face Girona on Sunday, however, the match could be cancelled if Catalan independence in declared.

The title holders and Champions League winners face a first-ever trip to the Estadi Montilivi. They have already taken security measures ahead of the clash, by travelling on a non-branded coach and arriving a day early.

Ahead of the match, Zinedine Zidane attempted to allay fears and insisted he has full confidence in the authorities. "We are not worried. Security will be a tight as it always is,” local media quoted Zidane.

"We have heard something about a potential suspension, but we want to play and we believe there will be no issues with doing so."

It is pertinent to mention here that Real Madrid trail their Clasico rivals by five points.
