US Cash Soymeal-Quiet trade; offers roll to January

Published Updated

CHICAGO: Spot cash basis offers for soymeal were mostly steady in the US Midwest interior on Wednesday as quiet demand from feed mixers offset support from tight supplies, dealers said.

* Some merchandisers reported a pickup in farmer soybean sales to crushers since Tuesday, which could help boost soymeal supplies in the coming days. Scarce country offerings of soybeans have kept the US crushing pace slow this fall.

* Dealers were actively rolling their soymeal basis offers to post against the Chicago Board of Trade January futures contract, now that the December is in delivery.

* Rising costs for dried distillers' grains in recent weeks have prompted some hog feeders to remove it from rations, a factor that has raised interest in soymeal, two sources in the northern Midwest said.

* At the Chicago Board of Trade, grains were higher after a move by central banks to ease global liquidity fears lifted the euro against the dollar -- buoying prices of dollar-denominated commodities.

* CBOT December soymeal was up $1.40 at $287.50 per ton, with most-active January up $1.20 at $289.20 as of 12:20 p.m. CST (1820 GMT).

* The CBOT January board crush fell 1-3/4 cents to 50-1/2 cents per bushel.

* Deliveries on CBOT December soymeal futures on first notice day totaled 116 contracts, within a range of trade estimates for zero to 200.
