The Minister of State for Pakistan Railways (PR), Fakir Muhammad Jadam Mangrio, has found a scam involving billions of rupees railway land in Hyderabad. Addressing a press briefing at Karachi Cantt Station he said that some unscrupulous railway officials had illegally allotted a waste piece of railway land to members of a union in 1984.
He said the occupied land was walled by the illegal allottees, majority of whom are now dead, thus making the resolution of the issue more complex. "I have visited the area, and directed the concerned officials to immediately conduct an inquiry about the fraudulent acts of PR officials," the minister said, adding that there would be undoubtedly involvement of high-ups and a case of corruption in the PR.
Showing his dissatisfaction about investigation of derailment of railway bogies near Hyderabad recently, he said that the Divisional Superintendent (DS) Karachi, who is the responsible person for the maintenance of railway bogies and track, should have been suspended, rather than suspending the lower rank staff of PR.
The minister had earlier formed a committee to investigate the incident of bogies derailment, and three officials had been suspended. The minister said that since he has assumed the office he has started travelling by trains at least twice a month to see the sufferings of the poor people in travel.
"I have ordered restoration of the three stops where the trains were stopping for the passengers of the area," he said, adding that he had found fans not working in Shah Rukn-e-Alam Express, and ordered to solve the problem. In reply to a query, he said that the recruitment of all advertised posts in PR would be transparent and purely on merit.
