Sardar Muhammad Latif Khan Khosa, a senior advocate of the Supreme Court is being appointed as Attorney General of Pakistan. Malik Muhammad Qayyum, who was serving as Attorney General on Tuesday evening confirmed reports about his resignation.
Qayyum was appointed by the former President Pervez Musharraf, last year. A few months back he had tendered his resignation but was asked to continue as Attorney General till further orders. On Monday, right after the announcement of Pervez Musharraf to resign this scribe asked Malik Qayyum about his plan and he said that he (Malik) will decide in next two days either to retain the office or resign.
On Tuesday evening he confirmed the reports about his resignation. According to a senior official of the Ministry of Law and Justice, the summary for appointment of Sardar Latif Khosa as Attorney General has been approved and the notification will be issued shortly. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has approved the appointment of Senator Lateef Khosa as the new AG, after the resignation of Malik Muhammad Qayyum.
When contacted, Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, who is also Senator of the Pakistan People's Party also confirmed the news about his appointment as Attorney General of Pakistan. Earlier, it was Dr Nasim Asharf, chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to bid farewell to the PCB immediately after the resignation of Prevez Musharraf. Afterwards, Tariq Aziz, secretary National Security Council followed the footsteps of former president and resigned from his office.
