Corps Commander Peshawar, Lieutenant General Masood Aslam, who is also President of the Frontier Golf Association, has said that he will take all possible measures to promote sports activities, particularly, golf in Federally administrated tribal areas (Fata).
He expressed these views during a prize distribution ceremony of the 18th Bank Alfalah Frontier Golf Championship, held here on Monday. Highlighting the importance of sports he said that Pak-Army has given due priority to support sports in their ranks as sports necessary to upgrade physical and mental capabilities and also teaches discipline, sportsmanship and tolerance.
Furthermore, he said, 'We are providing all possible facilities to the youth, particularly, of tribal region and encourage them to participate in Sports activities, adding that Pakistan Army over the past many years has been supporting such activities in Fata as well as other part of the country.'
Moreover, he said that Pakistan Army has a specific wing to enrol aging from 8 to 12 who are being trained under qualified coaches, he added that children from all over the country are welcomed to avail this opportunity. The Corps Commander, however, appreciated the organisers and their efforts toward the promotion of golf in NWFP, in particular and across the country in general.
He said that Fata people have enough talent to play and compete anywhere at national and international levels to achieve name and fame for the country. He also assured that Pakistan Army would continue and would utilise all its resources for the provision of better environment to the kids in the tribal areas.
On the occasion he suggested that there should be Inter-Agency tournaments, besides establishment of association and federation to promote healthy activities among the tribal youth. He said that they are also promoting other sports activities in tribal areas and these activities would help in maintaining peace in the region.
