Political excitement created by the 'Deal" and Presidential elections took attention of the people away from Eid preparations for a couple of days adversely affecting the sales of several items related to festivities on one of the most important days in the lives of the Muslims, such as greeting cards, bangles and hina.
Despite the opening and easy availability of inventions to exchange greetings electronically the tradition of exchange of Eid cards has survived the onslaught of modern electronic devices.
People, especially the youth, still prefer to send specially designed and beautifully printed greeting cards to their friends and dear ones to share with them the love, joy and happiness during Eid festivities. A publisher who has been in the business of printing Eid cards for three decades confirmed that e-mail has not adversely affected his trade to a considerable extent and young boys and girls continue to send Eid cards to their friends and relatives.
Thousands of faithful went into aitkaf in a large number of mosques in Lahore with the beginning of last Ashra (ten days) of Ramazan to seek blessings of Allah. During aitkaf the Muslims keep themselves engaged in prayers and recitation of Holy Quran most of the time in complete privacy temporarily created in the mosques.
