Jamia Hafsa crisis: Prime Minister asks lawmakers to play role for early resolution
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday asked the parliamentarians of all the political parties to come forward and play their role for an early resolution of Jamia Hafsa crisis to help save lives of innocent women and children, forcibly detained by the extremists inside the Jamia Hafsa.
He was talking to a Fata delegation of parliamentarians belonging to MMA and PML, who met him here at the Prime Minister's House this afternoon. The Prime Minister said the uncompromising and stringent attitude of the Jamia Hafsa administration is the main hurdle in the early resolution of the issue for which a number of Ulema, parliamentarians and social workers made interventions.
Shaukat Aziz said the priority of the government is the safety and security of the innocent women and children who have been forcibly detained by the extremists inside the Jamia Hafsa.
He said the extremist elements inside the Jamia Hafsa are only serving the cause of those who want to spoil the image of our religion and the Muslims as well.
The Prime Minister encouraged all the parliamentarians irrespective of their political affiliations to help in ensuring early release of innocent women and children inside Jamia Hafsa, whose parents are going through great agony while waiting outside, praying for the safety and welfare of their children. The Prime Minister appreciated the offer made by the Fata parliamentarians to help in resolution of the crisis.
He also thanked all the Ulema, parliamentarians and the people at large for their support and co-operation extended during this period of crisis. This support, he said, is a source of strength for the government and would facilitate in the early resolution of the problem.
The parliamentarians appreciated government's resolve and commitment to solve the Jamia Hafsa crisis peacefully by showing utmost restraint. They lauded the reconciliatory efforts made by the government for the last many months as well as the interventions made ever since the Jamia Hafsa administration adopted an aggressive posture. The parliamentarians also appreciated government's concern and prompt action to help the flood victims in NWFP and Fata.
They apprised the Prime Minister that the relief efforts helped in saving many lives and properties. They said the distribution of relief goods among the victims was timely and efficient. The parliamentarians included Maulana Abdul Malik Qazir, Maulana Mirajuddin, Maulvi Nek Zaman, Sardar Tufail Ahmed and Senator Amin Dadabhoy.
