Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas and In charge Minister AJK Council Major Tahir Iqbal (Retd) has said that the government is fully committed to resettle Kashmiri refugees in the country and would take all necessary steps for redressal of their grievances.
He stated this while chairing a meeting regarding the problems being faced by the Kashmiri refugees. The 39th session of AJK council discussed problems regarding Kashmir refugees residing in the evacuee trust properties in Pakistan as well as rehabilitation issues confronted by them.
A committee comprising Major Tahir Iqbal ((Retd), Federal Minister for KA & NA Minister In charge, AJ&K Council Secretariat, Sardar Attique Ahmad Khan, Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, Federal Minister for Railways was formed to look into the said issues and the price of plots being charged from the allottees of Purab Colony.
A meeting of the said committee was held on Saturday under the chairmanship of Major Tahir Iqbal (Retd) in the AJ&K Council Secretariat. Prime Minister AJK, Sardar Attique was also present on the occasion and stated that the AJK Council should provide funds for the resettlement of Kashmiri families in Pakistan and their problems and grievances must be brought on the agenda of the 40th session of the council to be held on July 9 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
The AJ&K Prime Minister suggested that all the Kashmiri families residing in the evacuee trust building should be granted property rights and any legal provision which bars grant of proprietary rights to these families should be removed. The committee approved the suggestion for submitting to President General Pervez Musharraf, the Chairman of Evacuees Trust Property Board.
The difficulties being faced by refugees in Kuldana Murree and other parts of Punjab were considered and recommendations for chief minister Punjab in this regard were finalised, which included: approval of property rights for 97 families in Kuldana Murree on the old rates and allotment of alternate land to affected people of Mangla Dam and Wah Cantt.
The issue of prices of plots in Purab colony - colony established by AJK council for refugees was also discussed, and it was decided that present price of 20,000 per 5 marlas plot being charged from refugees is reasonable and will not be increased.
