Ufone and Telenor Pakistan have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on facilitating both operators to share their infrastructure (sites/towers) for 10 years with mutual consent. The MoU is the first of its kind between the two leading mobile phone operators in Pakistan.
This is a welcome initiative for the industry, as it will help reduce costs of companies in developing separate sites for their networks. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ufone President and Chief Executive Officer Mubashir Naqvi said: "It is a breaking news in the telecom sector of Pakistan since the infrastructure was the main hitch for all the operators to mark their footprints all over the country.
"It will not only benefit both the signatories, but will also add concrete value to the environmental protection 'resource optimisation' energy conservation as social caring entities," he added.
He praised PTA Chairman for his continuous efforts that had added substantial value to the telecom sector and this MoU was also part of the PTA's directions and significance. Terming the MoU signing as a milestone for both the companies, Telenor Pakistan CEO Tore Johnsen said that he hoped to continue a relationship of co-operation in all areas of communication for the benefit of both companies' subscribers.
"Telenor Pakistan has always supported infrastructure-sharing-the internationally recommended practice of using one tower to carry antennas from multiple mobile operators instead of having separate towers for each operator. It just makes common sense.-PR
