A meeting of the Board of Governors of Fast and Board of Trustees of the University, chaired by Fast President and University Chancellor Senator Wasim Sajjad was held on Saturday.
Among others, the main agenda items which were considered were: approval of the budget of the University and Fast for 2007-08, re-election of members of Fast Board, audit report of Fast-NU for 2006-07, progress and development report of the university, development projects of the university for new building blocks at Karachi and Peshawar campuses, hostels for students and approval of new pay scales of the staff, says a press release.
The meeting unanimously elected Senator Wasim Sajjad as President of Fast Board and Khadija Haq, I.A Imtiazi, H.U. Beg, Nawazish Ali Seth, and Dr Rafiq Ahmed as members of the Fast Board for further three years.
The meeting thanked the information ministry for having chosen the University to admit 200 student under its Outreach Scholarship Programme worth Rs 260 million and expanding the reach to remote areas of Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan for selection of 300 students to study this year at the University campuses.
The process involves training of hundreds of teachers from 150 colleges and orienting 4,500 students from Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan. The University will select 300 students out of 4,500 students for study at University.
The meeting also approved the sum of Rs 40 million as financial assistance/scholarships to almost 600 needy students for the year 2006-07, in accordance with the decision of the Fast Board which states that no student will be denied education if he gets admission to the University on merit.
The continuation of education of such students is then the responsibility of the University. Already the University gives full scholarships to top three position holders in the intermediate examinations of each Board. This is in addition to Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, and Rs 5,000 to those who excel in each semester examination of the University.-PR
