Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has condemned the deployment of more Pakistani troops in Waziristan. He said that it has been ordered by General Pervez Musharraf to please the US.
He expressed these views while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday. He said that General Pervez Musharraf has taken this step due to fearing the withdrawal of US support.
"Just to please the US, the President was planning to play with the innocent lives of Waziristan inhabitants and Pakistani soldiers. He emphasised that instead of starting a military operation, an inquiry should be initiated on the past military operations in Waziristan in which many innocent people and solders were killed," he added.
No positive results would be yielded by sending more soldiers, as was the case on Iraq and Afghanistan. "The NWFP Governor repeatedly urged the government to politically resolve the Waziristan issue, but the government paid no heed to it and instead went ahead with the military operations," he added.
Imran also questioned the fire that broke out in the building of the Public Accounts Committee in which records of many account were lost. He said that he was amazed to see that it was just an isolated fire and the main building of the National Assembly escaped the tragedy.
He alleged that the fire was deliberately set to destroy the findings of Public Accounts Committee on sugar, steel mill, cement and stock exchange scams that took place under the present government.
He demanded an immediate inquiry in to the fire of Public Accounts Committee. "According to a recent report of Transparency International, the corruption has reached the new heights under the present rulers," he added.
He also questioned the validity of the voter lists that was issued by the Election Commission. He said that it shows a drastic decrease in the registered voters, which he claimed was part of election plans to favour the government.
He rejected the new voter lists and said that it was part of poll rigging. He suggested that the voter list should be up-loaded on the Internet at district level for the people viewing.
On the forthcoming All Party Conference, he said that it has two agendas: whether to take part in the general elections under General Musharraf or not, and possibility of en bloc resignations by the opposition if General Musharraf gets himself re-elected.
To a question, he said that he has filed a compliant with Scotland Yard against MQM chief Altaf Hussian and they were investing that case. They have levelled charges against him on four accounts: terrorism, incitement of violence, money laundering and torture.
On the recent storm in Karachi, he condoled with the families of deceased in the Karachi storm. He said that a half-an-hour rain took lives of 250 people, which exposed the inefficiency of the Karachi administration. "The question was that where has all the money, allocated for Karachi people, gone to. It seems that it has been stolen and sent to London," he alleged.
