Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Ghous Bux Mahar has said that his Ministry is making hectic efforts to curb use of narcotics, which is being smuggled from Afghanistan, adding Pakistan had become victim being a transit country.
He was addressing the participants of a walk held on the occasion of the 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' on Tuesday, organised by Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and Communication Spot Ltd from Diplomatic Enclave to Constitution Avenue.
The objective of the walk was to educate masses for eradicating drug abuse and making Pakistan drug-free country under the theme of 'Drugs- No-Never'. The walk was participated by high-ranking civil and military officers, Anti Narcotics Force and drug liaison officers of different embassies and a large number of people.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister highlighted importance of the day saying that Pakistan had earned a name for itself in the international community, as one of the strongest shield against the spread of narcotics.
The ANF Director General, Major General Khalid Amir Jaffery, in his welcome address informed the gathering that ANF had reduced the poppy production to an almost negligible quantity. He said the ANF had initiated a number of projects for creating awareness among the masses against drugs.
