Traffic through the Suez Canal was disrupted for two hours on Sunday while tugs refloated a grounded cargo ship, officials said. A Suez Canal Authority official said the Indian-flagged bulk carrier ABG Narayana was travelling south through the canal when its navigation systems malfunctioned and it ran aground near Ismailia around 9.30 am local (0630 GMT).
The grounding delayed around seven oil super tankers headed to the Mediterranean, according to the official. Suez Canal Authority tugs towed the vessel to a waiting area for repairs, and traffic through the canal has since returned to normal, said the official, who asked not to be named.
