The court of Additional Sessions Judge Islamabad Mirza Nisar Baig on Monday extended till June 22 the interim pre-arrest bail of expelled Minister of State for Communications Shahid Jamil Qureshi, allegedly involved in the murder of Pakistan origin Canadian woman Kafila Siddiqui and keeping her in illegal confinement.
Appearing for Shahid Jameel, advocate Mian Abdur Rauf pleaded before the court that the after postmortem chemical examiner's report of the deceased Kafila Siddiqui was still awaited, thus he requested the court to extend the interim bail.
The police however, sought cancellation of the interim bail and requested the court to give remand of the accused in the light of the evidences obtained by the investigators so far.
After hearing both the sides, the court extended the interim bail of the accused till June 22. Meanwhile, hearing another application filed by Shahid Jamil against the arrest of his driver and cook by the police on the charges of concealing facts, the court of District and Sessions Judge Islamabad, Mirza Rafiuz Zaman gave their two-day physical remand.
Shahid Jamil Qureshi was sacked from the Cabinet and booked by the Shalimar Police under Sections 344,346 of PPC on the allegations of keeping Kafila Siddiqui, aged 38, in illegal confinement causing her death. The court however, granted him interim bail till June 18 against the surety bonds of Rs 100,000. Later police added Section 316 PPC (Qatl-e-Shabih-e-Amd) after collecting evidence against the accused on the statement of his servant.
