The journalists and lawyers of Multan have strongly condemned the Kot Lakhpat Jail administration for maltreatment with Rehmat Shah Afridi, owner and chief editor of The Frontier Post and demanded action against administration of the Kot Lakhpat Jail.
In a press release issued by Multan Press Club President Shakil Anjum, General Secretary Jamshed Rizwani, Finance Secretary Abdul Sattar Qamar, MUJ's President Nadeem Shah, General Secretary, Hameed-ul-Hassan, President of High Court Bar Association Habib-ullah Shakir, District Bar President Muhammad Akram Bhatti and Former Vice President of Pakistan Bar Council, Mian Abbas Ahmed alleged that the jail administration had not provided any facility to his father despite the fact that his father had never violated the jail rules during the last 9 years of his imprisonment and served as peace-loving inmate.
They said that Rehmat Shah Afridi is very close to PML-N acting chief Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and rulers dislike this intimacy and friendship. They said that there was no justification to disallow his relatives to see him as per jail manual, denying the medicines and medical treatment because he is a heart patient.
They also condemned the institution of a case against five journalists of Makhdoompur Pahuran, a suburb of Khanewal. They said that ruling party was using the police for its political ends and now the country turned into a police state.
District Bar Association Khanewal President Chaudhry Ghulam Hussain, General Secretary Iqbal Jafari, Human Rights Watch's Convenor Mian Tariq Abdullah, President of Tehrik-i-Insaf Khanewal Shabbir Hussain Shabbir, Imtiaz Ali Asad Vice President of Khanewal Press Club, and traders chamber also condemned the police action and demanded immediate removal of DSP Sadar Mian Tanveer Ahmed, SHO Police Station Makhdoompur Pahuran Muhammad Yousaf.
