Japan provides US$4.4mn for airports' security in Pakistan

imageISLAMABAD: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has extended Pakistan a grant assistance to materialize the non project grant assistance amounting to 500 million Yen (US $4.43 million) for improving security of airports in the country.

The grant will help enhancing security at three major international airports-Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad, Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore and Multan International Airport.

The record of discussion and official note for the grant was exchanged here on Friday.

Secretary Economic Affairs Division, Tariq Pasha and Ambassador of Japan Takashi Kurai, signed the exchange of note and record of discussion on behalf of their respective governments.

Considering challenging security situation faced by Pakistan for the last many years, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority is in process of re-engineering of security of airports and up-gradation of security equipments in line with the international standards, so that gradually every airport of Pakistan will fall in the category of safe and secure airport of the world.

Japanese support in this regard is highly appreciated.

This grant project will definitely help to improve security at international airports of Pakistan through installation of face recognition system with security monitoring CCTV Cameras system.

Thus utilization of this grant will pave the way to safeguard, passengers, their belongings, airlines and its assets, aircraft, national assets and functionaries from the acts of unlawful interference.
