Published February 22, 2017 Updated February 22, 2017 07:20am

imageRAWALPINDI: Several terrorists were killed in an airstrike carried out by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in Khyber Agency on Tuesday night.

A release by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that jet fighters of PAF targeted terrorist hideouts in Rajgal area of Khyber Agency on late Tuesday night, killing several terrorists.

Several militants were reported injured in the airstrike as well whereas a militant hideout was also destroyed, the ISPR statement said.

Pakistan has seen a rise in terrorist attacks in recent days, including an attack on peaceful protesters in the heart of Lahore, a bombing in Quetta that killed two police officers and an explosion in the frontier city of Peshawar.

The attack on the Sufi Shrine, the countrys deadliest in years, stunned the nation and raised questions about Pakistani authorities ability to rein in militant groups despite several military offensives targeting insurgents.

The army has been carrying out operation against militants in several tribal agencies including Khyber and Mohmand near Afghan border. The operation has been intensified following a fresh wave of terrorism in the country that triggered a wide-scale crackdown in Punjab and Sindh.

It should be noted that armed forces have stepped up their operations against terror outfits in the country following the surge in terrorist attacks in the country.
