Lal Shahbaz shrine catastrophe: At least 40 dead, casualties feared

imageSEHWAN SHARIF: A suicide bomber attacked a crowded Sufi shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar at Sehwan Sharif on Thursday, with media reports reporting that at least 40 people were killed and dozens more wounded in the latest in a wave of bombings this week.

As per media reports, at least 40 were martyred while more than 90 injured. As per initial reports, it was a suicide blast informed the police. The suicide bomber entered the shrine from the Golden Gate.

imageDeputy Commissioner Jamshoro, Munawar Mahesar the explosion occurred inside the shrine, during the ongoing Dhamaal at the shrine after Maghrib prayers. Ambulances are rushing to the site, while the victims are being transferred to hospitals at Hyderabad and Jamshoro Civil hospital.

Emergency has been declared at the hospitals, across the province. Whereas, teams of army and Sindh Rangers have reached the spot.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif immediately condemned what he termed an attack on Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in the town of Sehwan in Sindh.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah called IG Police AD Khawaja and Hyderabad commissioner and ordered rescue and relief operation in wake of the blast.

As per reports, security has been beefed up at shrines in Karachi.
