The delegates of Asia Pacific Parliamentarians Conference on Environment and Development (APPCED) visited the Lahore Museum on Tuesday. Director Lahore Museum, Naheed Rizvi, informed the visitors about the historical significance of the museum.
She told them that the museum has 19 galleries showing a cross section of the cultural history of Pakistan from pre-historic to recent times. Naheed said Lahore Museum also represents South and Central Asian, Far and Middle Eastern and African schools of art, and is the oldest museum in the country besides being the greatest repository of the history and culture of Pakistan.
It may be mentioned that the APPCED delegates are currently in Pakistan to participate in the 3-day moot on 'Water Conservation and Sustainable Development' scheduled to be opened at Islamabad on Wednesday, February 28. The Senate of Pakistan is hosting the conference, which will be attended by parliamentarians of nearly 20 countries of Asia and Pacific regions.
The APPCED was established by the Korean parliament in 1993 as a regional entity dedicated to environment issues and is designed to assist law makers in legislative activities on sustainable development, and to strengthen linkages among parliamentarians.
