The tennis duo Aisamul Haq and Aqeel Khan defeated counterparts Iran in straight sets by 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2 in Davis Cups mens doubles category, at Sports Complex, Islamabad.

Pakistan victory comes after 2-0 victory over Iran on the opening day. The Pakistani tennis player Aisam and Aqeel Khan both won their singles matches in straight sets.

Aqeel Khan beat Irans Shahin Khaledan 7-6 (7-1), 6-4, 6-2; while Aisam Qureshi downed Anoosha Shahgholi 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.

"There were very high expectations from me and I got very nervous too," admitted Aisam ul Haq , quoted Dawn News. "But I had so much fun playing before my people, my parents and my fans. It is a great feeling to win while playing on one's own territory."

Aism further expressed delight to see the return of international tennis to Pakistan. He praised the administration and Pakistan Tennis Federation, on their arrangements for the Davis Cup.

"I have not seen such excellent arrangements before the Davis Cup in Pakistan, and the credit should be given to Pakistan Tennis Federation and the administration of Islamabad, who provided foolproof security," said Aisam.

It is pertinent to know that Pakistan is holding a Davis Cup tie at home after 12 years.
