Despite the embarrassing thrashing Down Under, Pakistans chief selector Inzamam ul Haq has defended his selection, saying that the body sent the best team to New Zealand and Australia.
The former Pakistan captain was talking to reporters saying, We took several steps before sending the team to New Zealand and Australia and sent the best bunch of players, quoted Dawn. However, the chief selector accepted that fitness remains a major concern in the team and called for improvements.
Pakistan was whitewashed in both Test series against the New Zealand and then against Australia, which was followed by a 4-1 defeat in the ODIs.
Inzamam however, expressed optimism from the upcoming second edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and was of the view that new players will emerge from the tournament.
Talking about captaincy issues, Inzamam opined, "I havent given any advice to the PCB over the captaincy issue but I think the perfect man for the job is one who can lead in all three formats."
Pakistan Test skipper Misbah ul Haq, 42, is at the twilight of this career, with many calling the leader to bid adieu to cricket. Previous reports suggested that PCB has already selected Azhar Ali as the successor for Pakistans most successful Test captian.
