Pakistan born South African leg spinner Imran Tahir is in hot waters, after the International Cricket Council was criticize for a wicket celebration in which he revealed a t-shirt under his playing kit carrying an image of Pakistani pop star turn evangelist Junaid Jamshed.
Tahir, known for his eccentric celebrations in the cricketing world, set off on a run in celebration, after dismissing Sri Lanka's Asela Gunaratne during the second T20 International match on Sunday.
The ICC regulation states: "Players and team officials shall not be permitted to wear, display or otherwise convey messages through arm bands or other items affixed to clothing or equipment ("Personal Messages") unless approved in advance by both the player or team official's Board and the ICC Cricket Operations Department. Approval shall not be granted for messages which relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes," quoted Cricinfo.
This is not the first time that ICC has issued warnings to players for displaying such messages, in 2014 Moeen Ali irked the governing body for wearing Save Gaza and Free Palestine wristbands during a Test match.
Junaid Jamshed died after the PIA flight PK-661 carrying 48 passengers and crew crashed on the way to Islamabad from Chitral on December 7 last year. There were no survivors reported from the ill-fated flight.
