Moeen Ali turns down PSL, prefers Makkah pilgrimage

Published January 25, 2017 Updated January 25, 2017 07:58am

imageEngland all rounder Moeen Ali, has opted out of the second edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL), and will instead leave for Mecca on pilgrimage with family members.

The cricketer was recently picked by PSLs Quetta Gladiators in replacement draft, as a replacement for West Indian T20I skipper Carlos Brathwaite.

Moeen Ali is a top player and a great person. We respect his decision to honour his family commitment first. Good Luck Moeen, tweeted Quetta Gladiators.

The franchise was quick to inform Alis change of plans, and the all rounder has now been replaced by the veteran Australian, Brad Hodge, who represented Peshawar Zalmi in last season's inaugural tournament.

Thanks guys. Inshallah in the future sometime. Would have loved to have taken part. All the best in the competition, said Moeen Ali.

Moeen, who at present is in India with England's squad, has played 37 Tests, 49 One-Day Internationals and 19 Twenty20 Internationals for the national side. However, this is not the first time that Ali changed plans, as last year, he pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction hours after putting his name forward due to the ECB expressing workload concerns.
