Panamagate case: JI Counsel irks SC

imageISLAMABAD: The judges at the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday expressed their displeasure when the JI counsel referred to Syed Zafar Ali Shah case.

The five-member bench led by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa resumed hearing of the ongoing Panamagate case.

During the hearing, when the Jamat-e-Islami (JIs) counsel quoted Zafar Ali Shah case, as the bench members asked questions from the counsel. The judges expressed their displeasure when the JI counsel referred to Syed Zafar Ali Shah case.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed said, "You have neither read the file, nor read the verdict."

Meanwhile, Counsel for JI Taufeeq Asif informed the bench that he stands by his words. I will prove that Khalid Anwar defended Nawaz Sharif in Zaffar Ali Shahs case, he argued.

On this, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa remarked that the bench is only interested in the cases findings.

During the proceedings on Monday, the court questioned links of the prime minister with the Sharif family's business.

Meanwhile, a German newspaper Sddeutsche Zeitung released new documents on social media showing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharifs daughter Maryam Nawaz as a beneficial owner of the companies in Saudi Arabia, while hearing of the Panama case was underway.

The Panama Papers have whipped up a storm of controversy over offshore wealth, ensnaring political leaders, sports figures and underworld members across the globe in the scandal.
