US President Donald Trump, first lady Melania Trump, Vice President Pence and Karen Pence continued a long inaugural tradition Saturday morning, attending a prayer service that was notable for the diversity of faith participants.
Religious leaders from various faiths were invited to recite prayers at the three-day event.
Presidential inaugural prayer service was held at Washington National Cathedral a day after Trump took oath as the 45th president of the United States. Every religious leader prayed for the global peace and for the benefit of humanity.
Pakistani-American Sajid Tarar, a Trump supporter also prayed at the inaugural prayer service, reciting few ayahs from the Holy Quran. Despite the entire ruckus around the globe calling the new US president a racist, Tarar is optimistic that Trump is not against Islam, but he is against terrorism.
Before his stint at Washington National Cathedral, he told NBC news, "My prayer will be telling American Muslims that you have to stand up for America, how to appreciate America. The country has given us refuge, they accepted us with open arms, and we have to be a part of it".
Back in October, President Donald Trump angered some in the Muslim-American community when at a town-hall debate he called Islamophobia a shame.
The inaugural prayer service is a tradition that began with President George Washington and was revived in 1933 by President Franklin Roosevelt, continuing ever since.
