KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) MPA Nusrat Sahar Abbasi announced in the Sindh Assembly on Monday that she was forgiving Pakistan Peoples Partys (PPP) Imdad Pitafi after he put a dupatta on her head and called her his sister.
According to latest media reports, Nusrat Sahar accepted his apology in the assembly hall and said that, "For the sake of this dupatta and because he called me his sister, I am forgiving him. It is a tradition in Sindh that when a shawl is used as a sign of forgiveness, then the other person accepts it."
Nusrat added that it was upsetting when arguments like the one that broke out on Friday occurred in the assembly.
She said, I had decided to take one extreme step, but Bilawal and Bakhtawar understood me. She thanked all human rights activists and organizations as well as senior political members for extending their support to her.
Earlier, Abbasi threatened self-immolation, giving an ultimatum of two days to the Pakistan Peoples Party to fire Imdad Pitafi as a provincial minister.
Sindh Assembly on Friday witnessed ruckus after Minister for Works and Services Imdad Ali Pitafi threw indecent remarks on the PML-Fs lawmaker.
A day after the incident, Parliamentary Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro served Pitafi a show-cause notice on the directives of PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Earlier, in his tweet, Bilawal addressed Pitafi and said that he must apologize to female MPA. Absolutely unacceptable behaviour and totally against the culture of our party that has been led by [the] strongest of women.
Soon after Bilawals statement, Pitafi admitted his mistake. I accept my mistake and will also tender [an] apology on the floor of assembly, he said in a statement issued on Saturday, adding that he will submit the answer of the show-cause notice and is ready to accept whatever decision is made.
