ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday resumed hearing of Panamagate case, as Jamaat-e-Isamis (JIs) counsel Taufiq Asif is advancing arguments.
A five member bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, including Justice Azmat Saeed, Justice Ijaz Afzal, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Ijaz-ul-Hasan, hearing the case against the family members of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The Prime Minister's lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer Naeem Bukhari have completed their arguments.
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) counsel Taufiq Asif resumed his arguments in the proceedings today, after which Shahid Hamid and Salman Akram Raja lawyers representing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharifs children Maryam Nawaz and Hassan and Hussain Nawaz will present their arguments in the case.
In the previous hearing, JI counsel Taufiq Asif, in his arguments said that PM Nawaz stands disqualified from office as he failed to disclose the details of his assets.
The JIs counsel said that the PM, in his speech, did not disclose as where he got money for the business. He said the premier stated that he bought the flats in London between 1993 and 1996.
To which Justice Asif Khosa replied that court ask questions just to understand the issue, adding that the questions must not be presumed as decision.
Justice Azmat Saeed Shekih inquired from the JI counsel whether Prime Ministers speech was part of the National Assemblys proceeding. Justice Asif Khosa replied that though the speech was part of the proceeding but it was not on the agenda of the National Assembly.
Justice Asif asked the JI lawyer to tell what the premier had hidden.
Speaking outside the Supreme Court, Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed said that the Panama case has become a white elephant.
It should be noted that the lawyers of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, PTI Chairman Imran Khan and President of Awami Muslim League Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed have already given their arguments in the high-profile case.
