Jamiat-e-Ulema Pakistan (JUP) -women wing- President and Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal member Farida Ahmad Siddiqui resigned on Friday in protest against Women Protection Bill (WPB) that was passed by the National Assembly on Wednesday.
Farida Ahmed Siddiqui is the second to Hafiz Hussain Ahmed resigning from the Lower House following approval of the WPB. Talking to Online here, Dr Farida confirmed that she had submitted her resignation to MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmad and he was eligible to submit it with the National Assembly Speaker during parliamentary party meeting to be held on December 6 and 7.
She said that she would no more participate in the Assembly's proceedings where a bill contrary to Quran and Sunnah was passed. "The Ulema and scholars from across the country have rejected WPB and termed it as un-Islamic," she added. Dr Farida said the bill would help open doors of vulgarity in the country and women would be vulnerable to insecurity.
It is to be mentioned that Dr Farida Siddiqui is the sister of prominent religious scholar Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani. She has conducted wide research on the Hudood Ordinance.
