imageMULTAN: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah Saturday urged the judiciary to maintain discipline and function smoothly for providing relief to common man.

Addressing a ceremony to mark 150th anniversary of Lahore High Court (LHC) here, he emphasized on resolution of common man's problems. He said the law was a 'filter' and all the cases must passed through it.

The Chief Justice asked the judges to work hard to dispense speedy justice as it was their prime responsibility. They must not take pressure or fear from any quarter while delivering justice, he remarked.

He hailed the role of the bars for their continuous struggle for the supremacy of law, calling them integral part of the judicial system.

The CJ said celebration of 150th anniversary of LHC was not meant to enjoy the feast, but to know the commoners, students, academia and people from all walks of life about its importance as how it worked out to protect their rights.

He said they had introduced state of the art new techniques and technology in LHC to resolve the cases. "If common man's problems would not resolve in 20 years, we are failed," he said.

He dispelled the impression that the 150th anniversary was being celebrated without completion of its 150 years. He said LHC was established in 1866 as the Chief Court of Punjab. On August 15, 1947 it was given the name of High Court of Lahore. In 1956 constitution, it was renamed as the High Court of West Pakistan. And on January 1, 1981, allied benches of the LHC were established in Bahawalpur, Multan and Rawalpindi.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of lawyers, presidents of districts bars association hailing from South Punjab and judges of Lahore High Court Multan bench.
