ISLAMABAD: Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Chaudhry Barjees Tahir Friday informed the National Assembly that the Punjab government had taken strict action against the persons involved in torturing a transgendere in Sialkot.
Speaking in the House, the minister said that soon after the incident a first information report (FIR) had been registered with the concerned police station, following which 10 accused had so far been arrested and produced before the court.
Earlier on a point of order, Chief Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Mahmood Khan Achakzai said that the Parliament should condemn the incident and take appropriate measures to avoid such incidents in future.
He said that federal government should ban the shipbreaking activities till formulation of the required laws.
He said that medical and fire-brigade facilities should be available at the ship-breaking yards so for safety and security of labourers working there.
