Bad news for Android mobile users, as their devices could be infected with software that tracks users private data and sends that information to China, according to a report published on Tuesday.
The personal data being transmitted without users knowledge include text messages, call logs, contacts, app usage data and even the users location, reported a security firm Kryptowire.
These devices actively transmitted user and device information including the full-body of text messages, contact lists, call history with full telephone numbers, unique device identifiers including the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) and the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), reads Kryptowire press statement.
Shanghai Adups Technology (Adups), a China-based company, has been behind the software, which is installed on an unknown number of Android-based devices, reported Fortune.
Adups technology is running on more than 700 million devices worldwide, says Kryptowire. While, most of Adups clients are small Chinese device makers, it does have major Chinese manufacturers like ZTE as clients.
As per Kryptowire, the software was intentionally created and installed by the manufacturers to monitor people's behavior. It said it created the software after being asked by an unknown Chinese manufacturer, reported Dailymail.
