State Minister inspects poverty survey

imageSUKKUR: State Minister and Chairperson, Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) MNA Marvi Memon on Tuesday visited Pano Aqil, Sukkur district where she inspected BISP's new poverty survey registration site of Town Committee Center.

She observed the process of registration and interacted with people for their feedback.

On the occasion, Chairperson BISP stated that Pakistan is one of the top five social safety nets in the world in terms of targeting and selection.

We are committed to make it top the list by registering state of the art National Socio Economic Registry (NSER).

She added that NSER is a national asset vital for designing welfare programs on financial assistance, vocational trainings, microfinance, education and health by different Government departments besides BISP.

During the visit, Ms Memon reiterated that the support from the local government in terms of logistics, security and social mobilization is critical for the efficient and timely completion of the resurvey.

During spot check of the registration site, the Minister instructed the concerned officials to facilitate the people in registration process.

She also informed people to contact BISP in case of any complaint at BISP Hotline No. 0800- 26477.

It is to mention over here that the pilot phase of the resurvey started from Haripur in June followed by Bahawalpur in September and Sukkur and Naseerabad in October.

Desk approach is being adopted in these districts. BISP has so far registered 1, 48,345 households in these four districts. Till date, 48,890 households in Haripur, 63,657 in Bahawalpur, 24,935 in Sukkur and 10,863 in Naseerabad have been registered.

In Sukkar, 113 counters setup in 36 centers will cover an expected case load of 89,249 households.

In Pano Aqil, 32 counters setup at 12 centres, will cover an expected caseload of 52,364 households out of which 6,122 households have been registered.

For the resurvey, two approaches like desk approach and door to door approach have been adopted so that no deserving family is missed out.

16 districts across Pakistan will be covered in the pilot phase. 12 districts of pilot phase where door to door approach would be started in December 2016 include Jacobabad, Thatha, Mohmand Agency, Gilgit, Mirpur, Layyah, Chakwal, Faisalabad, Kech, Qila Saifullah, Lakki Marwat and Charsadda. Pilot phase will be completed by end of March 2017 and the activities of national roll out of the resurvey will be initiated by July 2017. Resurvey will be completed countrywide by March 2018.
