Technology Up-gradation and Skill Development Company (Tusdec) and Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda) have decided to work together for setting up a Common Facility Center (CFC) in Lahore to facilitate the foundry sector.
The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of officials of Tusdec, Smeda, Pakistan Foundry Association (PFA) and other stakeholders here on Thursday.
Tusdec Chairman Almas Hyder chaired the meeting, which was also attended by Tusdec Director Projects, Syed Anwer Ali Pervez and Smeda Punjab Chief, Alamgir Chaudhry. Representatives of PFA and stakeholders assured their full support to Tusdec and Smeda for this project.
Speaking on the occasion, Almas Hyder stressed the need for making training of existing and potential labour on modern lines as part of this proposed project. He added that training of the labour in foundry sector on modern lines would help reduce wastage of raw material apart from improving the productivity in the industry.
Alamgir Chaudhry gave a presentation on the proposed 'Common Facility Center' for the foundry sector and said that two similar CFCs had already been approved for Multan and Faisalabad.
Tusdec officials gave a presentation on their proposal of setting up a 'National Institute for Foundry.' It was decided that training should be made part of the CFC project and both Tusdec and Smeda should work jointly on this project.
PFA representatives called for introducing Computer Aided Designing (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) at the proposed CFC for foundry sector. They also suggested setting up a small furnace at the proposed CFC to impart training to youths.
