SYDNEY: Australian stocks opened 1.01 percent lower Thursday on doubts over a resolution to the European debt problems and the Federal Reserve portraying the US economy as still weak.
At 10:15am (2315 GMT), the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 was down 42.7 points at 4,171.0 after the Dow Jones Industrial Average sank 0.63 percent.
The commodities-linked Australian dollar was also weaker at 102.38 US cents early in the session, down from 103.13 cents on Wednesday.
